Magpie Murders

by Anthony Horowitz

Magpie Murders is a neat murder mystery that plays with the cozy genre. The novel inside a novel is an homage to Agatha Christie and the twists and turns will keep you guessing. Who-dunnit? You'll have to read it!

Five stars!

According to Jane

By Marilyn Brant

This book review is about "According to Jane" by Marilyn Brant. I sadly did not find the storyline as compelling as I hoped. The protagonist, Ellie Barnett, is visited by the voice of Jane Austen (in her head) sophomore year of high school, and Jane becomes her constant companion in her trials to find love for years to come. As a Janeite, it was infuriating that Ellie did not appreciate Jane's wit and wisdom, often, blocking her out of her thoughts, but Jane reveals the reason why she takes residence in her head by the end of the book. However, the book leaves us with an open ended future and too many questions unanswered to leave the (at least this) reader satisfied. I think the story idea had a lot of potential but fell flat in execution.

The Ragamuffin Gospel

By Brennan Manning

The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning is not a book for Christians who have it all together. It is for your average person who struggles through and fails and gets back up to try again. It is not for the super holy. It is for those who need to be picked up and helped to move on in this journey of faith.
