Patriots' Day
Have you ever wondered what Patriots' Day was, besides a Monday holiday when the Boston Marathon is traditionally run, and many people have the day off work? Patriots' Day is a holiday that commemorates the Battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775, and the beginning of the American Revolution.
Celebrated since 1894 in Massachusetts, Patriots' Day is also celebrated in Maine as well, which was part of Massachusetts during the time of the battles. While the holiday is somewhat unknown outside of New England, Wisconsin also celebrates, and North Dakota, Connecticut and Florida also have recently begun commemorating as well.
Of course Massachusetts, and Worcester in particular was a vital player in the American Revolution, before, during and after. Worcester was a hotbed of revolutionary activity, from Isaiah Thomas and his printing press, to demonstrations in 1774, to Worcester having the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence in New England. Why not celebrate Patriots' Day on Monday by checking out an e-book or e-audiobook about the American Revolution or American history from our digital catalog?
